Every Pilates exercise will help your back, but if I had to choose 5 exercises for a 10 minute workout each day, these would be the ones.  They will mobilise the spine and strengthen all the torso muscles which will act as a girdle of strength to protect your spine and help maintain stability.

Cat Stretch

Cat Stretch

Cat Stretch

Mobility for the spine.  Also squeezes fluid out and draws fluid back in to the discs to keep them healthy

Side Plank

Side Plank

To work – well what doesn’t it work? – obliques, latisimus dorsi, really all the muscles from the core and those wrapping themselves round the side of the body to the arm and shoulder.  Keep the knee on the floor for an easier version.

Spine Twist

Spine Twist

To increase mobility into the spine

Swimming

Again, a multi-tasker!  I like this version because of the element of balance and body awareness required.

Pilates 100

Pilates 100

To increase core strength.
